Photographs of Rome.

You didn't think Jeff and Carolle would come back from their trip without sharing images from their trip, did you? We think you've waited long enough for a glimpse of their wonderful trip.

I feel like there are few words to adequately describe the splendid images they returned with, so I'll just let the photographs speak for themselves. Enjoy!

. . . and that's just scratching the surface. More coming soon!

Cross-country portrait sessions? You bet!

Do your out-of-town family and friends covet your portraiture? We often hear a version of this from our clients: "My sister loves my pictures but she and her husband live in Chicago." Something like that.

Well, there is a chance they can catch Jeff during one of his trips this year! Jeff will be making stops in a few cities across the country over the next few months . . . this could be a lucky break for your family or friends who want lovely images of themselves too!

Minneapolis
Sacramento
San Diego

Washington, D.C.
Phoenix
Houston
Dallas

If your loved ones are in any of these cities and want to schedule a session, call us to discuss coordinating schedules and reserving a time . . . we hope we can help you out!

The portraits featured are all sessions on-location, outside of NH . . . pretty neat, huh?

Update: Benefit for NHPCC

Before we left for vacation, the studio and Chill Day Spa hosted an event to benefit the NHPCC . . . Jeff created business portraits for donors after they were primped and pampered by the Chill staff. Here are some of the results!

Jeff and Chill's owner, Chrissy (pictured with her daughter, below), presented six-hundred dollars to the NHPCC while at Chill Salon a few days after the event.

A special thank you to Crispie Sweets and Cotton for providing delicious treats for the night and, of course, we appreciate all of the folks who came out to join us in support of the cause!

Bon Voyage!

We're leaving for vacation tonight!

Many of you have heard that Carolle's brother was recently named Archbishop of Quebec. Well, Jeff, Carolle, their girls and the whole family are headed to Rome for an audience with the Pope and an incredible vacation in one of the most amazing cities in the world (are you jealous yet?).

"But where is Abby?" The answer is: not at the studio.

Though I usually hold down the fort when Jeff and Carolle are away, I'm skipping off to Nashville for my own little excursion. Couldn't let the bosses have ALL the fun, could I?

While we're gone, we are pleased to welcome two guest bloggers who will keep up the blog in our absence . . . we hope you enjoy reading their work!

The studio will reopen on Tuesday July 5th, after the long holiday weekend. If you need to get in touch with us, leave us a voicemail at the studio (603.626.7300).

7 tips to fabulous baby portraits.

We simple ADORE baby portraits. We can't help it . . . they're just so sweet. That said, Jeff and Carolle have photographed . . . well, a lot of babies. We've seen it all- from the wide-eyed giggly to big grins covered in birthday cake (great picture, isn't it?). We've caught spit-up with our bare hands and performed monkey sounds with the best of them. We're pretty sure there's nothing that surprises us at this point (but that's not saying we can't be surprised . . .). After all of this, what is the best formula for superb baby portraits? Read on.

1. Naps- When is your baby freshest? First thing in the morning or later in the day? Most, if not all, infants are alert and photograph best after they're rested. Let us know what works best for your baby so that we can schedule a session time that fits his or her rhythm.

2. Feedings- No one (including adults) likes to be photographed on an empty stomach! Make sure your baby isn't hungry before his/her portrait session, but not so full that we have a spit-up issue (Abby the Baby Handler will thank you, we promise) . . . we guarantee you'll have fewer (or no) meltdowns if tummies aren't grumbling.

3. Stranger danger- Jeff and Carolle are the parents of two daughters and well remember the ages when their girls were most clingy. This stage can come and go at any time for any infant. In order to increase the smiles and decrease the tears (they make everyone oh-so sad!), let your baby or toddler get used to the staff by interacting and chatting with them before the session. We also keep the studio relatively baby proof, so if little hands wish to wander, they're welcome to explore under a watchful eye.

4. Comfort objects- Bring a few special blankets, noise makers and toys to your session. Sometimes the wave of a familiar object is just the ticket to a wide, beautiful smile. If all else fails, we have a special stuffed member of our staff named Flash the Puppy who makes surprise appearances at sessions. He's been with the studio for just as long as Jeff and Carolle and is very experienced with photographing little ones.

5. Illness- We have had a few sessions with sick babies that turned out beautifully . . . but let's face it, most babies don't do well with ear infections, colds and sometimes even teething. If your baby is having a tough week (fever, runny nose, drowsy, etc.), call us a day or two ahead to discuss his or her session. We may encourage your to keep your appointment, but we may suggest finding another time to photograph your infant.

6. Wardrobe- We highly suggest bringing 2-3 outfits per session with your infant. We may not get to all the ensembles, but it's always nice to have variety (and a back-up in case of an accident!). If you have special items (such as a christening outfit or family heirloom, for example) you want your baby photographed in, please bring them and make sure you point them out to us. We will always attend to your specific requests.

7. Mom and Dad- If the parents are relaxed, baby will be more at ease. Please let us know if we can help you feel more comfortable during your portrait session. Sometimes Mom and Dad need some TLC too!

A little about our studio-

You can't stop the beat!

Who's going to Hairspray at the Palace Theatre? BeacauseJeff photographs the Palace productions for their promotional media, he created these images a few weeks ago before opening night.

Hairspray is playing in Manchester through next week (Abby is taking her mom on Saturday and is pretty excited about it). Doesn't it look like fun?

We always seem to run into folks who have seen our work for the Palace . . . we love supporting the local arts and are always happy help out the theater. Check out the slideshow of other productions Jeff has photographed (below)- we bet you've seen some of these too!

Happy 100th birthday, Aunt Rachel!

We LOVE this recent WMUR story of Jeff's great-aunt Rachel taking a spin at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for her 100th birthday. Jeff and his family recently spent some time taking portraits of Rachel and her children to commemorate the occasion.

In honor of her 100th birthday, I thought we'd show you some of her portraits from a few weeks ago . . . we think they capture her cheerful disposition and love for life.

A few days after their session, Rachel's daughters stopped by the studio and I asked them to reveal her secret . . . they said simply, "a positive attitude and a healthy diet." Hmmm . . . sounds good to me!

Thanks for spending time with us, Rachel. Happy Birthday!

We love to share precious moments.

We're constantly gushing about how privileged we feel to share the most special occasions in the lives of our clients.

Who can beat the feeling of capturing the sweetest moments of weddings, new babies, bar mitzvahs and Golden Anniversaries? We're just so lucky.

We've had quite a few clients approach us with First Holy Communions and baptisms over the years and spring is always a time when people plan for these occasions. Looking back on some of these sessions, I've been struck by how they are so
timeless, reminiscent of generations past and are a special glimpse into landmark moments in the lives of many children and parents (not to mention how much easier it is to capture beautiful images in a controlled studio . . . no competing with other cameras and proud parents after mass!). I can imagine these are portraits passed down to children and then (one day) grown grandchildren . . . how neat is that?

You can learn more about Jeff and Carolle's photography of children, infants and special events by visiting our website.

P.S. Please remember Dachowski Photography is closed Good Friday and Easter weekend (April 23-25th). If you need to reach us, please leave us a message at (603) 626.7300 and we'll return your call when we're back in the studio. Best wishes for a blessed weekend!

Look what we found!

Oh, the things you find when searching your boss' name on YouTube. Recorded at Imaging USA in San Antonio back in January. Yeah, Jeff!

Through Jeff's Lens: The Baltimore Basilica

While passing through Baltimore, the Dachowskis paid a visit to the Baltimore Basilica- both a national historic monument and the first cathedral in America.

For all the history and architecture buffs out there, the Basilica was built from 1806-1821 and has hosted visitors such as Pope John Paul II and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. It stands as the first cathedral in America.

Jeff and Carolle visited the Basilica the day Carolle's brother was named Archbishop of Quebec . . . Jeff remarked that the visit was especially moving on such a momentous morning.

Have you checked us out on YouTube?

We know that there isn't exactly anything new about YouTube, but we recently updated our channel with a few videos- it's now featuring seniors and weddings (plus a little tour of the studio)!

Keep a look out for more of these- especially during the spring and summer when wedding season is in full force and seniors begin to come in for their portraits. Things are about to get very busy (and very exciting) here, so visit often!

Who is The Next Plain Jane????

Remember this post?

Well, Jeff just finished photographing the newest Plain Jane for Not So Plain Jane's . . . and while we can't reveal who she is just yet (Shhh! It's a surprise!), we thought you might like to see some of the lovely Plain Janes from previous years.

See anyone you know?

Not to taunt you or anything, but the session with The Next Plain Jane and NSPJ staff was a blast. We can't wait to show you who she is! And who knows . . . maybe next time the NSPJ Plain Jane will be YOU!

Hats off to Jeff!

It's been all over Facebook, but I thought we should take the time to post how excited we are that Jeff took away NH Photographer of the Year at NHPPA Conference this weekend!

He also earned the CPP (Certified Professional Photographer) Award, the ASP (American Society of Photographers) State Award, two court of honors, a Kodak Gallery Award, the Lustre Color Highest Scoring Print Award and Best of Show- phew!

Many thanks to all the judges, speakers and participants in this year's NHPPA conference. Jeff and Carolle thought this year was really successful, despite the unwelcome snow that showed up.

I'd like to say that Jeff and Carolle are resting soundly after so much hard work, but it's quite the opposite. More exciting projects on the way, so stay tuned!

A look behind the curtain.

Ever wonder what it is that Jeff and Carolle do when they present all over the country? Check out these captures from their recent trip to Illinois!

(Above: senior and family session demonstrations with volunteer models)

About 75 photographers attended Jeff and Carolle's seminar- talk about flattering! Check out the final product from this session on the studio Facebook page.

This weekend, the Dachowskis are off to the NHPPA convention in northern NH. More on that next week!
